ADRIAN SIMS

Adrian Sims

Adrian studied piano with Alan Rowlands and Phyllis Sellick at the Royal College of Music, graduating in 1982 after winning the Chappell Gold Medal, its top piano prize. Other successes were the Royal Overseas League piano award, the Hastings Concerto prize, and he was a prize winner at John Ireland Centenary Competition, the Jaén International Piano Competition in Spain and finalist at the Busoni competition in Italy. During his solo career, he performed at the Queen Elizabeth and Wigmore Halls, twice broadcast live on the BBC and played solo in a gala concert for the Queen Mother and Prince Charles. He also taught at the Royal College of Music Junior Department.

Adrian contracted Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) at a time when the condition was less recognised and treatable than it is today. As a result, he turned to a career in psychology in 1987, a career which still occupies him fulltime in the field of business consultancy. After forming a duo partnership with pianist, Stephan Warzycki, he returned to the concert platform in 2005 at the Edinburgh festival. He now plays there regularly and is currently undertaking a series of Chopin recitals where he will play all of the Scherzi, Ballades and Waltzes along with the major Polonaises.
